βOn the surface, Koberlein (or Wind River or whatever) seems like a good company - but in reality, they have all these different departments that don't communicate with each other, and we ended up spending several hundred dollars over what we should have. Their billing and service system are incredibly confusing. All of this money could have gone to actual good work that would have resulted in a fixed system. Additionally, they told us we had a 1000 gallon tank, which it turns out, we did not. On the phone, when asking about what to do, the representative did not give us options or explain what the problem could be - just scheduled another pumping. When we had it pumped the first time, they sent a camera down and did not explain anything about what they found. They did not explain anything about work they did to our plumbing, just that it 'had to occur.' Well, turns out I had another professional come and say their work was incorrect. They also don't know how to properly process customers or their needs. Go with a smaller septic and drainage company to suit your needs.β β Julien Ledda, ββ
βThis company used to be Koberlein in Lords Valley, PA. They WERE a reputable company for many years. Wind River Environmental totally ruined their reputation. First they didn't honor their cost on my septic cleanout, but the worst thing about them is they never return phone calls, and they just don't care. Their driver (Austin) drove very fast into my driveway and ripped out my camera cables on the house. He told me someone would call me to discuss. It cost me over $700 to get this repaired. Not one return phone call and I called them over 4 times and sent them emails. I will NEVER use this company EVER again. BEWARE!β β Elaine Weber, β

βBrady M came out to address a clogged line from the house to the septic. After the initial diagnosis wasnβt promising and not much left to try, he took the time to go the extra mile and look into the issue further by sticking his arm down into the hole and found the actual issue, real badass move. Most people would have given the bad news and took off, but something didnβt make sense to him and he kept trying to figure it out until he got it. He than explained to me how to avoid the problem in the future as well as a few DIY tricks to try. Really great work ethic, people skills, as well as technical knowledge. Anyone who gets him as a tech can be assured if he can possibly help u he will. Thank you to the crew in dispatch and customer service as well. Mary was the rep and was awesome in getting us set up and dispatch got Brady to us with in a few hours. Highly recommend.β β Michael Eagen, βββββ

βCalled Drain Tech on a Wednesday evening due to a major sewer blockage. Tech said it would be $200 less if I waited until the next day. I waited and he arrived the next morning. He was courteous and took time to explain what he thought was the issue. He ran large sewer machine and said problem was resolved. The only thing he did to test the system was have me flush the toilet. However, the issue was not resolved as the kitchen sink drain and basement laundry room drains remained blocked and water immediately backed up into laundry sink again ...if in fact it had ever gone down. I had knee replacement surgery a week prior to this and did not get to basement until Friday afternoon to see status and that was when I discovered the blockage was still an issue. Therefore, I had no idea of whether it was that way when the tech left. When I called them again the tech on call said it would be over $400 if he came that evening or on the weekend. I was not happy with that due to it only being 48 hours since issue was not correctly resolved. I called someone else who came Saturday during snow storm and totally resolved my issues for less than Drain Tech would have charged and he cleared my sidewalks from the snow storm as well because he was sympathetic to my post surgery condition. I will not be calling Drain Tech again and would not recommend them to a friendβ β Colleen McKenna, ββ
βLandlord contacted Draintech due to a major backup in the main line that needed jetting asap. Kyle was awesome and they were shorthanded that day. Kyle came out and did by himself what the competition said was going to take 2 people to do. He did it with a smile, and was very pleasant his entire time working on the sewage line. Very accommodating and prompt upon arrival time. Kyle took the time to explain everything going on in detail and was upfront with pricing, even though the landlord was paying for the repair. Draintech was half the price of the competition. Kyle even videotaped the issues which he stated would be recurring if the pipes were not replaced. He was 100% right as two weeks later, the problem reared it's head again and the landlord had the grounds dug up the following morning and the pipes replaced. All the way around, Draintech gets 5 stars for everything from start to finish. In a time where nobody wants to do anything, but get paid, Kyle and Draintech made old school customer service still exist. Thanks!β β M K, βββββ

ββοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING SERVICE β ABOVE AND BEYOND! I cannot say enough great things about Avalanche Septic Services in Hamlin, Wayne County, PA. We first met CJ when he came out to repair a septic line at our older home in Brier Crest Woods (Blakeslee). From the moment he arrived, he was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly thorough. He explained every step of what he was doing, which gave us so much confidence and peace of mind. He went truly above and beyond β the kind of service you rarely see anymore. So when we moved into our new home and needed a cleanout, there was NO question who I was calling. I didnβt even realize at first that CJ now owns Avalanche Septic β and honestly, it makes perfect sense. His work ethic, expertise, and customer-first mindset are unmatched. Before scheduling the appointment, I checked out their website β nicely done, easy to navigate, and I loved seeing all the staff listed. When I called, I was immediately impressed. Instead of dealing with an automated phone tree, I got a REAL person on the line. CJβs mom, Beth, answered the phone and was an absolute pleasure to speak with. Friendly, helpful, and efficient β she got us scheduled immediately. It was refreshing to talk to a human being instead of pressing 1 for English or fighting with some automated system. On service day, Brandon and Billy arrived and they were fantastic. Before doing anything, they double-checked that it was okay to bring the truck on the property since we had a brand-new driveway β extremely thoughtful and respectful. They were courteous, conscientious, professional, and very personable. I had a ton of questions because I wanted to understand more about our three-tank system, and both Brandon and Billy took the time to explain everything clearly. They even showed me where the cleanout pipes were on the turkey mound and walked me through how the whole system works. These two young gentlemen absolutely deserve recognition for their outstanding work. As soon as they left, I called the office to tell Beth how wonderful they were. Avalanche Septic has earned a customer for life. From owner to office to field crew β this is a business that truly cares. Highly, highly recommend! πππβ β David, βββββ
βI called Avalanche Septic to have our system pumped out. It turned out we needed a new pump for the sand mound. Avalanche followed through. The owner, CJ, came out and troubleshooted the issue. We had to replace the pump and do some rewiring. He was very efficient, and he knew what he was doing, and the price was reasonable. They confirm their appointments by text and email, making the process convenient. When you call, you speak with a live person, so you don't have to wait for a callback. I highly recommend Avalanche.β β Jan TurnerCar, βββββ

βReeves Septic damaged the beginning of my driveway, and it now requires serious repair. We immediately called them the next day and sent several pictures (at their request) of the damage caused by their truck. The owner, Ron Reeves, called me back and stated that "yes those are definitely my truck tracks." He said he was really hoping not to turn this into a "big thing", I said, that I agree it shouldn't turn into anything big but with all due respect the damage is most likely going to cost quite a bit to repair. He then stated that he would have to come out and look at the damage in the driveway. I then reached out to the blacktop company that did my driveway and they gave me a quote. I've been reaching out for the last few months trying to get in touch with the owner, but he refuses to call me back. In the end, the owner never reached back out to me, or even resolved the issue. The thing that bothers me the most is that he never took accountability for what happened by following through with repairing my driveway.β β Travis McRoy, β

βCouldn't be more aggravated by the situation I was put in. The first phone call went great. They had the tech out the very next day. Originally was told that the pump I had was no longer sold (Barnes) and they would have to try and rebuild it. Everyday I called for an update. After the third day I was told the pump could not be rebuilt but they were working on a solution. I spent 4 hours of my own time to find something that would retro fit my system with a brand pump that they carry (Liberty). After confirming that the pump would fit I was told that they would have to order the control panel. It's two weeks out on a brand that they carry in stock? Apparently it's okay for you not to use the toilet or shower for two weeks. I found the panel and pump the next day with shipping for $4,200. I understand no one works for free but they quoted me a total of $8,000 to fix it. (This is a drop in pump btw.) $3,000 less than digging it out and doing a full replacement. I spent more time calling them for answers with limited response back. However, they were quick to call me for payment for my septic pump out. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I called another company to find out my pump is "NOT" discontinued and available for next day install with no additional fees.β β John D, β

If you notice any of these, contact a professional immediately.
Do I need a permit for septic installation in Pennsylvania?

How long does a septic system last?
A well-maintained septic system can last 25-40 years or more. Concrete tanks last the longest (40+ years), while steel tanks may only last 15-20 years before rusting. The drain field typically lasts 20-30 years. Regular pumping, proper use, and prompt repairs are key to maximizing your system's lifespan.
What is the difference between a septic tank and sewer?
A septic system is a private, on-site wastewater treatment system owned and maintained by the homeowner. A sewer system connects your home to a municipal treatment plant that processes wastewater from the entire community. Septic systems require regular pumping (every 3-5 years), while sewer systems charge monthly fees for centralized treatment.
