β€œI honestly have to say that Michigan Septic was no more than amazing! Our story began with gurgling sounds when I did laundry and when we flushed the toilet. We called and explained to them what was going happening. They scheduled a time to come out to run a camera through our drains & drainfield. In the meantime we had an emergency out of state and had to be away from home for 2 1/2 weeks. They worked with us on having our daughter meet them at our house so they could get this done. The outcome was a bad drainfield, which was 45 years old. They was very understanding of our situation and worked well with us on getting everything in order and ready to replace our old system. They communicated very well, which we greatly appreciated, and had no problem with us contacting them throughout the process and asking questions. Everyone we spoke with was proffessional and friendly, from the office people to the workers. They arrived around 9am and was completely finished at 5pm. The whole system was completed in one day! We had to wait on the county to issue permits before proceeding. So it took 6 1/2 weeks from beginning to end. But our new system is installed and we are back up and running! The inspector verified that we made the right decisions. He told us that he works with Michigan Septic often and that they are a very good company. We highly recommend Michigan Septic and will definitely call them if we ever need work done in the future.” β€” Cindy Ward, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
β€œAustin came to pump septic. He was early for my appointment was very contentious and professional. Will call them again for any future septic needs. Additional review I needed a new septic tank installed; had Michigan Septic do the installation. Was a challenging installation with several unexpected issues. The crew were awesome and assuring with things not going exactly as planned. The tank was installed. Was very happy with the outcome,” β€” Diane Fisher, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

β€œI’ve lived in my home 15 years. They’ve serviced my home the whole time and the two previous owners. I absolutely wouldn’t call anyone else. Quick, efficient and the friendliest people you could ever meet. I would highly recommend them to everyone!!” β€” Shari Litten, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
β€œCalled them up at 2pm on a Monday and told them my system is backed up and wanted to know when they might be able to come out to get it pumped. Much to my surprise they said they could be there in an hour, so I asked pricing and he was straightforward with his price, which was on par with what another contractor had quoted me in the past, so I had them come out. While pumping he worked with me to flush the drain and release a clog in the pipes that had formed. They didn't charge me for "excessive fluid level" or "thickness" which I had been hit with (to a tune of $150) previously from said "other" contractor. That alone is the biggest reason ill be calling them back in the future. I got a price over the phone, that the guy stuck to once he was completed with service, and no other hidden fees. I am very happy with the service, the guy was friendly and very helpful. I highly recommend them to anyone.” β€” Patrick Farkas, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

β€œI can’t express how happy I am with this company. I sell real estate locally, and we had what we believed was an emergency septic issue. They returned my voicemail within minutes and sent the owner, Joe, out right away. What happened next honestly blew me away. Joe discovered a second septic field that the homeowner didn’t even know existed. We thought the entire system needed to be replaced, but Joe found the second tank within minutes and saved the dayβ€”and the deal. Crisis completely avoided. The next morning, Jared was out first thing to pump the second tank. He had nothing but great things to say about his boss and his boss’s wife, which was refreshing to hear. That kind of respect inside a company usually means they’re doing a lot right. Both Joe, his wife (office mgr) and Jared were professional, honest, and incredibly helpful. We were prepared to pay for a scope and other services we assumed were needed. My client isn’t of great means and did not want to lose this deal, but Joe was upfront and told us none of that was necessary. He didn’t even charge a service fee for his time. Integrity at this level is almost unheard of these days. In real estate, I go the extra mile for my clients, and I deeply appreciate when a company does the same. This is now my go-to septic company, and I will recommend them to everyone who needs septic services.” β€” Rick Ramirez Realtor, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
β€œI can't stress enough, how wonderful this company is. We had (what we thought was an emergency) issue. They responded to my voicemail in minutes. They sent someone within a few hours. The young man that came was so professional and honest. As it turned out, we did not need our tank pumped and he told me that immediately. I would not have known this and would have gladly paid him to do it. He did not even charge me a service fee for his time. To find a company with this level of integrity is very rare in this day and age. We will recommend them to everyone we know that needs septic services.” β€” Erica Kochevar, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

β€œI was seriously stressing.. we are a family with 5 kids.. with holidays right around the corner. My septic line had bellied and kept getting clogged. I was paying $$ to multiple plumbers to snake it, only have it happen 3 days later again. I received multiple quotes.. nobody could do it quick or some never even got back to me. I couldn't do dishes.. laundry and I only had one working shower and toilet.. with this septic line down. I needed it to be fixed. I called Harvey and Sons.. the woman was pleasant and kind. Ray called me.. we spoke for a bit and he was out the next day! He was considerably lower in price than anyone I have called. He came out.. had the line hand dug in about 20 mins.. and then came back the next morning with his brother Bob and it was replaced within 3 hours.. they sawed the concrete patio( and placed it back).. replaced 24ft of line and added an outside access.. and cleaned up my lawn beautifully. You wouldn't even have known they were there. Great personality, helpful, kind brothers.. family owned business. I highly recommend them for all septic needs. I will never go anywhere else. I have used Allied and All American in the past. Never again. The customer service that Harvey and Son's provide is exceptional. They treat you like family! Thanks Ray and Bob! You saved our Christmas!” β€” Mouna Shock, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I pump my septic tank?

Most septic tanks should be pumped every 3-5 years, depending on household size, tank capacity, and water usage. A family of four with a 1,000-gallon tank typically needs pumping every 3 years. Regular pumping prevents solids from entering the drain field and extends your system's lifespan.

How much does septic pumping cost in Detroit?

Septic pumping in Detroit, Michigan typically costs between $300 and $600, depending on tank size (750-1,500 gallons), accessibility, and the service provider. Request quotes from multiple companies listed above for the best price.

What are signs my septic system needs repair?

Warning signs include: slow drains throughout the house, sewage odors near the tank or drain field, standing water or soggy spots in the yard, gurgling sounds in pipes, unusually lush grass over the drain field, and sewage backing up into the home. If you notice any of these, contact a professional immediately.

Do I need a permit for septic installation in Michigan?

Yes, Michigan requires permits for new septic system installations and most major repairs. Permits ensure systems meet health and environmental standards. Your septic installer will typically handle the permit process, but fees are usually $200-$1,000 depending on your location.

How long does a septic system last?

A well-maintained septic system can last 25-40 years or more. Concrete tanks last the longest (40+ years), while steel tanks may only last 15-20 years before rusting. The drain field typically lasts 20-30 years. Regular pumping, proper use, and prompt repairs are key to maximizing your system's lifespan.

What is the difference between a septic tank and sewer?

A septic system is a private, on-site wastewater treatment system owned and maintained by the homeowner. A sewer system connects your home to a municipal treatment plant that processes wastewater from the entire community. Septic systems require regular pumping (every 3-5 years), while sewer systems charge monthly fees for centralized treatment.
