Their prices were less than the competition, too! We highly recommend.β β Elizabeth Adriance, βββββ

And the two fellas who came for the call the next day were outstanding! They were helpful, patient, and were totally wholesome and sweet-spirited young men. βWoke up to a foul smell in the house coming from the drains, and gave Privyβs a call. They fit me into the schedule right away, with a same day visit! Couldnβt have asked for a better company to take care of me, they were quick, clean, friendly, and fair priced. They answered all my questions and we even shared some laughs. Would highly recommend giving them a shot. They will be my go to for any future issuesβ β Joe Strasser, βββββ
βHighly recommend, I called every company in Kalamazoo for Price Quotes and Privy has the second best prices (only about $10 off from the other)! The lady scheduling was very nice and they had immediate availability so I chose them! They came, found the tank on their own, cleaned it out & didnβt charge extra for having to use a different tool to break stuff up. They also took photos and provided inspection notes which was really nice because I was not even remotely aware we had a cesspool instead of a septic tank and that it was in bad shape.β β Alyssa Wolverton, βββββ

βWe have used Vicβs septic for 20 years. I was. At a point that I didnβt want to dig the access covers to pump my tank so recently had the tank pumped and risers installed. Vicβs is reputable and gets the job done right. I recommend Vicβs for servicing your septic. They are great.β β Thomas Frisk, βββββ
βVics came right out when I was having issues with my septic. He did an excellent job at explaining everything to me. I had one company come out to pump it before and they didn't say anything but it needs to be replaced with no explanation behind it. Vic took the time to check to see if it could be a cheaper fix than a whole system replace. I would highly recommend Vics for your next septic pump, maintenance or repair.β β Kenny Packer, βββββ

βJust before closing on our sale we found out or drain field was at the end of it's life. Inspector recommended this company. They came out and bid $8000-$10000 so at closing we set aside one and a half times that amount because we told the buyers we would pay for it. Days later while pulling the permit with the county representative (who the county sent out some inexperienced kid with a degree) plans changed to a mound system and they re-bid at $27500! I was ticked that they underbid it in my opinion to get the job. I told Richard's not to start and needed to get other bids. He came back and tried to bill me $1000, $480 for the permit of (which I owed and paid) and an additional $520 because the county requested he take a small scoop of dirt with a small excavator (which they didn't fill and tore out underground electricity running to the shed. I ended up getting two more bids from reputable companies. One for $4000 less and one for $7300 less! Long story short, we hired the company with the lowest bid. SHOP AROUND AND DON'T GET BULLIED!β β Brian Shaff, β
βWhen we bought our home, part of the sale was that the sellers would coordinate for our septic system to be replaced and they chose Richardβs septic. They did the installation and it went well. After a few months we reached out with questions and after years of trying to contact we still have never received communication back.β β Darcy Houchin, β

βI cannot say enough great things about suburban. They were so nice to work with and honest. I am building a house without a builder and so I am just figuring it out as I go and they were so nice and helpful. Their quote was better than a competitor and when they were done they told me they used less sand than they thought they would need and told me that I owed $1250 less than the bid! That kind of character and honesty is almost unheard of these days. Going forward they are the only company I will use and I will recommend them to everyone I know. Excellent job!β β Grace Jones, βββββ
βMy husband and I had called several companies to bid a job. None of them would get back with us except Suburban Tank. We were also referred to them by a client. When the job was done on Monday it was found to have been misinstalled by another company and we really didn't need whole new field. They saved us so much money but most of all they were HONEST. In this world everyone is looking to make a dollar and they could have totally took us for a ride. It's good to know there are still honest people out there. I will forever recommend them and scream their name from the roof top. Highly recommend!!!!β β Jess, βββββ

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I pump my septic tank?
Most septic tanks should be pumped every 3-5 years, depending on household size, tank capacity, and water usage. A family of four with a 1,000-gallon tank typically needs pumping every 3 years. Regular pumping prevents solids from entering the drain field and extends your system's lifespan.
How much does septic pumping cost in Kalamazoo?
Septic pumping in Kalamazoo, Michigan typically costs between $300 and $600, depending on tank size (750-1,500 gallons), accessibility, and the service provider. Request quotes from multiple companies listed above for the best price.
What are signs my septic system needs repair?
Warning signs include: slow drains throughout the house, sewage odors near the tank or drain field, standing water or soggy spots in the yard, gurgling sounds in pipes, unusually lush grass over the drain field, and sewage backing up into the home. If you notice any of these, contact a professional immediately.
Do I need a permit for septic installation in Michigan?
Yes, Michigan requires permits for new septic system installations and most major repairs. Permits ensure systems meet health and environmental standards. Your septic installer will typically handle the permit process, but fees are usually $200-$1,000 depending on your location.
How long does a septic system last?
A well-maintained septic system can last 25-40 years or more. Concrete tanks last the longest (40+ years), while steel tanks may only last 15-20 years before rusting. The drain field typically lasts 20-30 years. Regular pumping, proper use, and prompt repairs are key to maximizing your system's lifespan.
What is the difference between a septic tank and sewer?
A septic system is a private, on-site wastewater treatment system owned and maintained by the homeowner. A sewer system connects your home to a municipal treatment plant that processes wastewater from the entire community. Septic systems require regular pumping (every 3-5 years), while sewer systems charge monthly fees for centralized treatment.
