βRyan George came out yesterday to clear a drain for us. He did a great job being aware of reducing costs to accomplish the task. They offered an appointment between 2 and 2:30 in the afternoon on Dec 23. I have never had a plumber who gave that short of an arrival time, text me when they are on their way, and arrive 2 minutes early! After the job was complete, they cleaned the area to look like the issue never happened! We normally tip when people come out and especially when they do such a great job. I forgot! Please look for a card for Ryan sent to the Muskegon office. Amazing job!β β Heidi Maroney, βββββ
βCalab was very timely and courteous when he came to our rescue and replaced 3 shut off valves and also installed a new kitchen faucet. I won't do any more plumbing on my own ever again. Calab is very knowledgeable and did a masterful job and answered all of my questions in layman terms that I could understand. Wishing Calab the best of luck with his future! We believe in you!!! Also, Kudo's to Craig who came by in advance of Calab's visit as he was able to do the estimate on the spot and ensured us that Calab was well equipped to perform the job. Thank you West Michigan Septic Sewer and Drain.β β Jeffrey Balaskovits, βββββ

βI honestly have to say that Michigan Septic was no more than amazing! Our story began with gurgling sounds when I did laundry and when we flushed the toilet. We called and explained to them what was going happening. They scheduled a time to come out to run a camera through our drains & drainfield. In the meantime we had an emergency out of state and had to be away from home for 2 1/2 weeks. They worked with us on having our daughter meet them at our house so they could get this done. The outcome was a bad drainfield, which was 45 years old. They was very understanding of our situation and worked well with us on getting everything in order and ready to replace our old system. They communicated very well, which we greatly appreciated, and had no problem with us contacting them throughout the process and asking questions. Everyone we spoke with was proffessional and friendly, from the office people to the workers. They arrived around 9am and was completely finished at 5pm. The whole system was completed in one day! We had to wait on the county to issue permits before proceeding. So it took 6 1/2 weeks from beginning to end. But our new system is installed and we are back up and running! The inspector verified that we made the right decisions. He told us that he works with Michigan Septic often and that they are a very good company. We highly recommend Michigan Septic and will definitely call them if we ever need work done in the future.β β Cindy Ward, βββββ
βAustin came to pump septic. He was early for my appointment was very contentious and professional. Will call them again for any future septic needs. Additional review I needed a new septic tank installed; had Michigan Septic do the installation. Was a challenging installation with several unexpected issues. The crew were awesome and assuring with things not going exactly as planned. The tank was installed. Was very happy with the outcome,β β Diane Fisher, βββββ

βReview written by Jessica: These Smart Septic guys are terrific! Ryan texted me right away after I had left a voicemail. He helped schedule me in quickly and was incredibly kind. And the two fellas who came for the call the next day were outstanding! They were helpful, patient, and were totally wholesome and sweet-spirited young men. They showed me important things about my septic field and taught me a lot. Everything was good and my issue wasn't septic, at all. (Thank goodness!) They referred me to an awesome plumber who fixed my issues right away. Bless the guys at Smart Septic. They were π― trustworthy and didn't take advantage of my ignorance. βDiagnosed our wastewater line issue and quoted a great price. Completed repair promptly when we were ready.β β Abby Kiesel, βββββ
βPosting this on both Discount Septic google pages as there appears to be two different ones to leave reviews but still the same company/owners as I think itβs worth sharing my incredible experience with Mike and Selena. I was having issues with my new septic system over the winter and was referred to them by Harryβs to have my tank pump. They came out, pumped it, and pointed out concerns they observed regarding the installation of my septic tank to report back to health department. They then came back out to hot jet my delivery line for me. Then in the spring they came out when the ground was thawed to figure out why my delivery line had froze. They figured that out but then went a step further to look at my drain field and had concerns that the drain field/septic system had not been installed properly according to permit. It was such shotty work. With this being my first home and knowing absolutely NOTHING about septic systems they took it upon themselves to ADVOCATE for me and contact my county health department (discount septic is not licensed to install in my county) to voice their concerns and to have someone come out to look at everything as it seemed I was always getting the same old spiel from the county health department supervisor. Long story shortβ¦Iβve never been more satisfied with a company. They go above and beyond and advocate when most companies do not. While I donβt live in tri-city areaβ¦I was born and raised there and will always recommend them to my family and friends who live there and will ask that they do the same. A google review just doesnβt seem like enough to show my appreciation for them and the work they do. I am sure I am not the only one thatβs had a great experience with them and I am certain I wonβt be the last!β β Alison Witucki, βββββ

βRobinsons recently pumped a tank for us, for a Real Estate transaction. It was no easy task in the snow. They made sure it was done in the time frame we needed and they were able to help us get it plowed and the job was done on time. Patty is a great help and very professional. We will absolutely use them in the future.β β Service @ Zion REI, βββββ
βExcellent company! They saved me from a weekend without plumbing! Water started running into my basement Thursday night, then had a rooter company out Friday morning who told me my septic tank was full. I just bought the house on foreclosure a month ago, and had no idea where my septic tank was located on the property and the county had no records on my house, either. Robinson Septic (John and boss Rick) was able to come out only hours after I called them (on a Friday afternoon) and they were very knowledgable and helped me find my septic tank and helped me dig it up. They gave me suggestions on how to prevent further problems and how to deal with the tree roots in my tank. They located my tank, dug it up, and pumped it all for less than other companies quoted me to just pump. I would HIGHLY recommend this company- they do a great job, are very friendly, and the price was more than fair. They went out of their way to make sure the job was completed on the first visit.β β Heather Rawe, βββββ

βScammers. Moved in 4 years ago. They pumped the tanks before we moved in and left a note saying it was "very full" and we needed to have them come back out. Suspicious, I called a someone else who said they had never heard of something like that and told us to get it pumped in a few years like normal. Four years later, we had someone pump our tanks. Said the levels looked quite normal.β β Daniel ES, β

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I pump my septic tank?
Most septic tanks should be pumped every 3-5 years, depending on household size, tank capacity, and water usage. A family of four with a 1,000-gallon tank typically needs pumping every 3 years. Regular pumping prevents solids from entering the drain field and extends your system's lifespan.
How much does septic pumping cost in Grand Rapids?
Septic pumping in Grand Rapids, Michigan typically costs between $300 and $600, depending on tank size (750-1,500 gallons), accessibility, and the service provider. Request quotes from multiple companies listed above for the best price.
What are signs my septic system needs repair?
Warning signs include: slow drains throughout the house, sewage odors near the tank or drain field, standing water or soggy spots in the yard, gurgling sounds in pipes, unusually lush grass over the drain field, and sewage backing up into the home. If you notice any of these, contact a professional immediately.
Do I need a permit for septic installation in Michigan?
Yes, Michigan requires permits for new septic system installations and most major repairs. Permits ensure systems meet health and environmental standards. Your septic installer will typically handle the permit process, but fees are usually $200-$1,000 depending on your location.
How long does a septic system last?
A well-maintained septic system can last 25-40 years or more. Concrete tanks last the longest (40+ years), while steel tanks may only last 15-20 years before rusting. The drain field typically lasts 20-30 years. Regular pumping, proper use, and prompt repairs are key to maximizing your system's lifespan.
What is the difference between a septic tank and sewer?
A septic system is a private, on-site wastewater treatment system owned and maintained by the homeowner. A sewer system connects your home to a municipal treatment plant that processes wastewater from the entire community. Septic systems require regular pumping (every 3-5 years), while sewer systems charge monthly fees for centralized treatment.
