βOur septic started backing up and Mike was able to come out the very next morning! Him and his partner were very nice & went above and beyond to make sure we were good to go. He would not leave until the water from the toilets when flushed came through and when they didnβt he vacuumed the pipe to get a clog out caused by grease build up. Once the tank was pumped and emptied they easily could have just left and we would have had to also call a plumber but they didnβt and we greatly appreciated it! Weβll definitely be calling them again in the future!β β Francine Murillo, βββββ
βFerguson Septic pumped my tank today. Fast service at a great price! All went well as Jesse Ferguson answered all my questions. I highly recommend their service for septic tank cleaning.β β John D'Andrea, Sr., βββββ

βFrom the office staff who answered the phone to the plumber who came out, Transouβs Plumbing and Electric was very impressive. I spoke to Megan on a Monday morning and she was kind, helpful, and also just fun to speak with given the resin for my call. Early Tuesday afternoon Zachary came to our home (with notice of being in the way first which was appreciated). He was respectful, efficient, and even educated us on some things! Turns out the job was easier than we anticipated which was a pleasant surprise. He even left us with a fun business card that was a squeaky duck which our toddler loves! Highly recommend this company, they hire great people who will take great care of their customers.β β S.C. Kirkwood, βββββ
β10/10 would recommend! We had a plumbing emergency of our main drain pipe backing up, and leaking under our house due to decades of severe corrosion. We called Sunday evening, got a call back before 8am Monday. Jacob was able to come out on Monday just after lunch, and the major repair started Tuesday morning. By Wednesday afternoon, we were fully functional again. The entire Transouβs team was amazing. Excellent communication and customer service, very prompt service, no pushy upsells, and fair pricing for quality work. We also had them replace all three hose bibs while they were out. When we get to the next stages of updating our plumbing, Transouβs will be our only call.β β Jennifer Beckner, βββββ

βI am very pleased with Myers Septic Service. They were very professional. Being that we still have snow and ice on the ground here he came out in this cold weather to pump our septic tank. Thank you for coming out in dangerous conditions to make sure our tank was set. I would highly recommend Myers Septic Service to anyone needing a septic clean out. Thank you so much Mitchell for your fast and friendly service this morning. I commend you for working out in this cold weather we are experiencing in the Carolinas during this time. Stay warm friends.β β Danielle Cole, βββββ
βWife said it was time to call somebody. There was a gurgling sound we were not familiar with and the occasional smell. After checking with Google to see who we could call, I had a list of possible companies. Since my septic tank was 35 years old and had never been pumped I figured I should shop for experience instead of price. With Myers having been in business for over 45 years, they got the call. My first time calling with a septic problem. Dena could not have been nicer and placed my appointment. Mitch came out and arrived early and did not take long to pump out tanks. Mitch was very knowledgeable and helpful, answering all our questions. He was very nice as well. I am very pleased with the service Myers provided and will not hesitate to call again. Thank you Myers.β β Franklin, βββββ

βSeptic 911 is amazing. We are pretty loyal to the companies we hire and tend to stick with them - but when I called about a problem with our septic after just having it pumped a little over a year ago, our former provider treated me like I hadnβt already spent over $10,000 with them over the years at our various homes. They treated me just like I had never been a client. So Iβm actually glad about that treatment by them or I would have never decided to hire someone else. And so glad I did. Their rating of 5 is incredibly well earned. They were amazing from start to finish and quickly resolved our issue while explaining everything along the way. They treated us like family even though we were new to them. Weβll keep using them for many years to come. Thank you for coming out quickly and taking such great care of us!β β Eagle Scout Seven Twenty Nine, βββββ
βQuickly diagnosed the problem and was able to clear in less than 1 hour. Very thorough and informative. Would not hesitate to recommend their services to anyone. Thinks float switch may be bad and said he would have a follow up in a week or so to see if the switch needs replacing or is in fact working properly.β β Jim Ream, βββββ

Had to dig out the top on the caps and put the dirt back neatly. No issues and went smooth. Paid him what was quoted and I went about my day. I am Very happy.β β Matthew Bullins, βββββ

βJust had my septic tank pumped out, great service and fast! I called up a few days ago to make an appointment and they were able to get me scheduled 2 business days later for the pump out. Both guys that did the job were very nice and professional and took several measures to make sure that everything was clean just the way it was before they came. I definitely recommend Mueller Septic Services to anyone out there that needs any type of septic work done. A++ Service!! Great job!β β Jeff Hoffman, βββββ
βWe had our tank emptied in November with Mueller. They were quick to come out, which was much appreciated. Unfortunately, this month, we had what we thought was a partial blockage in our pipes. But through further inspection- It turns out Mueller did not empty our liquid side of the tank and by default didnβt clean the filter. (They only dug one hole.) Mueller only did a third of the job that was expected of them. I called Mueller last week to see if they would rectify the problem. They were not willing to put us on the calendar or admit fault. Instead, the owner walked us through how to clean our filter ourselves. It has cost us an additional $600 to figure out that Mueller Septic did not complete the job they were hired to do. We all have bad days, but to not even be willing to be part of the solution of the problem you created, is not okay.β β Sarah Hall, β

βI would 100% recommend Sprinkle Septic. Our leach bed failed and we were displaced from our home for several months while obtaining a permit. Once we obtained the permit, I called 8 septic companies for a quote for repairs. Michael was the first one to respond. He was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate. He was the only company to ask if were displaced and truly seemed to care about how this was affecting our lives. Upon finding out the answer, he promptly fit us into his schedule and got to work only a few days after hiring him. We ended up needing our entire septic system replaced, yet all of the work was completed in just a few days. He was respectful of us and our property. He also would take the time to answer any and all questions that we had, ensuring that we understood what was going on and how our septic system works. His pricing was slightly higher than other quotes but it was well worth it for the quality of service that we received. Through this experience, he has gained a customer for life. I will never call any other septic company for repairs or even just to routinely pump the tank.β β Kristen Isom, βββββ
βI called on Dec 24th and got an appointment for the 26th. Mike and his son were both friendly, professional, and courteous. They did an excellent job of digging up my septic tank cover, pumping my tank, flushing the tank out at the end to ensure it was as empty as they could get it, then re-covering the hole in the ground over the lid afterward so that the ground was back at the same level as before the dig without a mound. They also rinsed their pump hose in my tank before putting it back on the truck, and rolled it back up in such a way, so that it didn't leave a sludge spill on the lawn. They also rinsed off the driveway with a garden hose where some of the waste water had dripped from the hoses after they put them back on the truck. They're priced at the upper end of the range for this area, but they do a great job, especially if you care about details like I do and are particular about your property. Would recommend. A few cons, which I discussed with Mike, & he's open to flexing on: 1) ramming multiple times with a huge metal ram on the top of my tank lid to break the seal before opening; I'd rather not risk cracking my lid, rather use a bar and shovel to pry it open; 2) using a hook to lift the cover, which in one way is a great idea; I prefer a shovel to avoid chipping the underside of the lid, or else wrapping the end of the hook in tape or some other way to avoid chipping the lid over the years with the hook; 3) blowing sewage water back into the tank at the end in order to break up sludge & flush it, prefer to use fresh water to avoid introducing unknown solid/liquid substances into system; in my case, our waste water was all his truck was holding so non issue this time; 4) he did text me to change the appointment to 2 hrs earlier, which I don't like, but he was flexible when I was unable; 5) he won't accept any liability for damage to driveway by his truck.β β Leonard Lacroix, ββββ

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I pump my septic tank?
Most septic tanks should be pumped every 3-5 years, depending on household size, tank capacity, and water usage. A family of four with a 1,000-gallon tank typically needs pumping every 3 years. Regular pumping prevents solids from entering the drain field and extends your system's lifespan.
How much does septic pumping cost in Winston-Salem?
Septic pumping in Winston-Salem, North Carolina typically costs between $300 and $600, depending on tank size (750-1,500 gallons), accessibility, and the service provider. Request quotes from multiple companies listed above for the best price.
What are signs my septic system needs repair?
Warning signs include: slow drains throughout the house, sewage odors near the tank or drain field, standing water or soggy spots in the yard, gurgling sounds in pipes, unusually lush grass over the drain field, and sewage backing up into the home. If you notice any of these, contact a professional immediately.
Do I need a permit for septic installation in North Carolina?
Yes, North Carolina requires permits for new septic system installations and most major repairs. Permits ensure systems meet health and environmental standards. Your septic installer will typically handle the permit process, but fees are usually $200-$1,000 depending on your location.
How long does a septic system last?
A well-maintained septic system can last 25-40 years or more. Concrete tanks last the longest (40+ years), while steel tanks may only last 15-20 years before rusting. The drain field typically lasts 20-30 years. Regular pumping, proper use, and prompt repairs are key to maximizing your system's lifespan.
What is the difference between a septic tank and sewer?
A septic system is a private, on-site wastewater treatment system owned and maintained by the homeowner. A sewer system connects your home to a municipal treatment plant that processes wastewater from the entire community. Septic systems require regular pumping (every 3-5 years), while sewer systems charge monthly fees for centralized treatment.
