“Since Wind River acquired Brownie's it has sucked. We used Brownie's for 12 years with zero issues. Two years ago we had issues with Wind River for an appointment to inspect and pump out. Three weeks ago I made another appointment, this time to replace a high level float and alarm that are old and dilapidated. Also, something in the septic system continues to trip the GFCI receptacle to which equipment is connected. A local electrician inspected and replaced the outlet and installed a new one and informed us that the septic equipment is tripping the GFCI. I made the appointment a week in advance for a Friday. They no-showed, first claiming "nobody answered the door" (a lie, I was home all day), then said they called a number on the account (my wife's) despite me giving them my contact number when scheduling. So they came the next day, a Saturday, knowing we wouldn't be home. The service tech dug up the lid to our system, supposedly checked everything and called me (the correct number this time) and told me nothing is wrong and everything is working fine. He told me he did not have the high level float and alarm on the truck and someone would return on Monday. Two days later, the GFCI tripped again. Wind River never called and never returned to replace the high level float and alarm (which I plainly asked to be replaced when I made the appointment) or further diagnose what is tripping the GFCI. “Absolutely horrible experience. We were quoted $325 for a septic inspection and pump out, which seemed like a great price. After they dug up our yard, we all discovered together that the system included two tanks and a dosing tank. Instead of being honest and giving a fair updated price, they jacked the total to over $1,000 on the spot. What makes this even worse is that my fiancé called the company while they were still working in our yard and asked for a quote to pump out two tanks. They told her $600. That proves they intentionally ripped us off at our own home. This is a textbook bait-and-switch operation. They lure you in with a great price, then once your entire yard is dug up, they raise the cost dramatically because they know you have no choice. “Updated to respond to owner: This condescending response as well as similar responses to negative reviews do not resonate with a customer focused business. I am however glad to hear that I have taught you something, because when I mentioned that this was a hazard, the employee I spoke with expressed no concern whatsoever. NO ONE offered to replace the lid until I called repeatedly, stating how this is not acceptable due to the safety and environmental hazard it presents and the company’s proposed solution was to “send dispatch with a piece of particle board and charge for the visit”. Unless you are the technician who I spoke with or the one who actually performed the work (since you did not mention your name in your response) I honestly don’t understand how you can be attesting to the events that occurred. Yes a replacement is needed but I am failing to see how this was a professional way to deal with the problem presented to you. This is literally the third explanation I have received regarding what happened to the tank lid. There is no need to try to shift blame, you keep implying that I “must have know” these things, however I am not the one that works in the profession. You have shown your potential and past customers far better than I ever could the true nature in your company’s integrity and manner that you conduct business. Original post: Total septic performed a pump on my system. Informed me of needed repairs, and left the entire septic tank completely open, save the caution tape and four thin stakes. I have children, live across from a park where small children play all the time, temperatures have exceeded the 90s this week and it has rained daily. Have called them back multiple times and the woman who answers the office phone has told me that they are not responsible to cover it, refused to let me speak to anyone who may be of more assistance and that she “only answers the phones to help out”. “To say that we didn't know how wonky our septic system would be when we bought our house is an understatement. Septic Dominators helped us out of a jam last year, but things weren't "normal" (and not their fault, again, the situation is just wacky). “Our 2-year old septic system had a pump failure in December 2024. We called out A1 Septic Service, and after nearly 2-weeks and $4,000 in work to replace the pump, we started having GFI issues. It turns out that the alarm wire going in to the tank was cut. A1 says they will not cover the repair as they cannot be sure that they're the one who cut the wire. However, the alarm was working prior to their service, we never had a GFI issue prior to their service, they cut the old pump cords going into the tank, and no one has been in the tank since. I guess what they're proposing is that some random trespasser dug up our yard, opened the tank, randomly decided to cut that cord (leaving all the other cords in tact) and then covered everything back up. While I do not have video coverage of their tech cutting the cord on the installation date- they're the only company who has ever been in our septic system. Lesson learned- video before, during and after your service, or better, choose a company who will stand behind their work. UPDATE 2/24/25 after owners reply: - correction $3100 see photo for charges - I called to request the owner of A1 to remove our phone number and residential address for privacy concerns, and the general manager (Freddie) refused- stating "this is how we handle reviews" which I can only assume means to extort people by exposing their personal contact information in hopes they will remove the review. (update, since you've posted our number, anyone who would like to review the full video or discuss our interaction with A1 is welcome to call us.) - when we placed the call for pump trouble we explained the GFI was tripping, the phone rep did not say there would be a service charge, nor did she say they had no openings and they "had to squeeze us in. She politely said they would be out tomorrow between 12-5. - the phone call Monday AM was not in relation to waiving any service call charges, it was to see if they would take responsibility for cutting the wrong wire. After we were told they were not going to fix the alarm they offered to waive the service charge that we were not aware even existed. To us this was a warranty call. - the owners reply "if we had cut the cord... then the pump would not have worked perfectly for two months." - they cut the alarm cord, and it would only trip the GFI randomly when that wire would get wet. It happened 5-6 times over the last two months and through process of elimination we figured out which devices were tripping the GFI. - at the close of the phone call Freddie informed me that since we left them a negative google review, he said he's now going to charge us $275 for the 20 minute visit to our home. Fortunately, I have a video and audio of the entire interaction from the tech who visited on 2/22/25. Within 10 seconds of opening the tank lid he saw the problem. Google only allows 29 second videos- so there are 3 of this interaction- 2:49:19 "So I found your problem". "There's no alarm wire coming into your tank" 2:49:29 "I didn't notice that before" (this was the tech who gave us the quote, since he noticed in 15 seconds this time he and the other tech would surely have noticed this "cut wire") 2:49:39 "you have your old wires from your old pump". (these were cut by the install tech Joe who did the pump install) 2:49:44 "you can see that wire is cut, i don't know if that was something Joe did". (We didn't have GFI issues before Joe's install and Joe cut the other wires to the old pump... no one else was in our tank but Joe.) 2:49:57 "the moisture is getting on the end of that wire there, and its tripping the GFI". “Mathis was able to provide same day service to my home when I was in a bind, unable to use any of my fixtures since drains were backing up. The first person that arrived was kind, professional, and tried his best but could not find the tank lid. He contacted another guy to come help. The second guy, I think there were two actually, not only helped find the tank lid but went above and beyond to help fix my issue. He explained septic maintenance and when pumping it out and doing the normal stuff they do didn’t make it possible to flush my toilet, he offered to clean out the drain line and explained the extra cost. He even politely interrupted my calling a plumber to make sure I understood they could jet the drain line, which saved me money bc I wasn’t paying a whole separate company for their entire fee (obviously it’s cheaper to have someone who is already there do a task than to pay for a whole second service call from another company that focuses on plumbing rather than septic).
